Winter Date Ideas
Hot Dates When It's Cold Outside
Winter date ideas - as the temperature drops and the snow & ice take over its time to get out your winter gear and share some quality winter time together. Just because the seasons change is no reason to stop sharing romance.
These winter date ideas are not by any means new or different than anything you've probably been doing all your life. What will make these ideas unique as date ideas for you now is if you add the most important element to any date idea now. You.
Just because it looks cold and dreary outside doesn't mean you can't make it a hot and exciting winter of romance You, and your intention to enjoy your time together no matter what you are doing is the most important part of any date. That will make these winter date ideas something you will both hold in your bank of good memories forever.
Some Like It Hot
The truth be told, I am not much of a winter (cold weather) person. I prefer the sun and heat of summer. Despite all that I've always lived in the Northeast United States where the winters are cold.
When you live where it gets cold for one third of the year you either make the best of it or you are miserable. Needless to say, I make the best of it. I'm still not a winter person, but I embrace the best parts of winter and have grown to appreciate the season.
As I write this page (the day after Thanksgiving) it is 28 degrees outside. Add the wind chill and it feels like 15 degrees, and winter is still officially about a month away. The cold is here which means it's time to break out the winter gear and get ready to heat up the season with romance.
Winter Date Ideas
Ski Together - Hit the slopes or a cross country trail together. I took downhill ski lessons when I was young and never got past the basics. For me the best part is in the ski lodge after falling on my butt all over the slopes. I went cross country skiing once and it wiped me out. Not as easy as it seems, especially if you're not the athletic type. As a winter date idea this will let you share the adrenalin rush of excitement as you fly down the slopes together.
Go Sledding - You'll probably have to share the hill with kids but after a few turns you'll probably be too tired to continue. Then it's time to go home and get warm with some hot chocolate or something stronger. The idea is to have fun like a kid. Enjoy yourself. Play.
You'll see amazing sights in winter if you slow down and pay attention Go For a Walk / Snowshoe - I love to walk in the winter, especially during or just after a good snow. Here's a picture of a little raccoon I saw while on one of my winter walks. It looked like it was waiting for mom to return. My wife and I usually walk in cooler weather then return home to warm up together.
Have an Indoor Picnic - While the weather outside might be freezing and wet, inside can be cozy and warm. Spread a blanket on the floor and have an indoor picnic. Get your favorite take out and watch the snow outside while you stay warm inside. Got a fireplace, even better!
Build a Snow Man/Woman - A surprisingly large number of people I know have never built a snowman. What? All you need is a good wet snowstorm (or wait for a thaw) and your imagination. Be prepared to get cold and spend time after getting warmed up together.
Go Ice Skating - if you can't skate that's fine too. You'll have plenty of opportunity to hold onto each other as you slowly make your way around the ice. Lots of laughs and lots of fun followed by your favorite way to warm up together.
Volunteer to Help Others - there will probably never be a shortage of good-hearted people who appreciate help during the Holidays. It can be as simple as serving up means at a local shelter, or delivering meals and presents to shut-ins and seniors. Years ago I volunteered to serve Thanksgiving dinner at a local shelter's Thanksgiving celebration and it was one of the best nights of my life. I met many good people who appreciated the effort. This is a great type of memory to share with someone special.
Campfire in The Snow - my wife and I have had at least one Christmas Eve campfire in the back yard, in the cold snowy winter month of December. I shoveled a path to our fire pit and made us a nice warm fire. We had some hot drinks and warm clothes to keep us warm, and I believe we just sat and watched the fire burn, talking about how quickly the past year had gone. Kind of romantic. Kind of fun too.
Movie Night - when it's cold outside, many of us just want to stay indoors under a warm blanket with a cup of something warm. Or strong. Or both. It may be too cold to play outside but that doesn't mean you can't bring a blanket to cuddle under and watch movies inside.
If you ever needed a reason to do something indoors, winter is a good reason. Here are some other winter date ideas you can try inside when it's too cold outside:
Go to a museum Go to the movies Go out and play pool Exercise together at a gym Go to Sunday brunch Go see a play Go listen to live music Have a game night Visit and indoor water park Go window shopping at the mall Take a romantic getaway together Take a class together Cook together Visit a fortune teller Go out and sing a karaoke duet I'm sitting here listening to the cold wind outside as I make my list of ideas. Right now all I want to do is turn up the heat and brew a pot of hot coffee. Soon enough though I will take my wife by the hand and we will get outside and make the most of these winter date ideas. You should too.
