Valentines Day Ideas
Beyond Cards, Flowers, and Candy
Valentines Day Ideas come in many forms. Valentines Day, or Saint Valentines Day, is the traditional day on which lovers express their love for each other by sending Valentine's cards, presenting flowers, or offering candy or gifts.
The U.S. Greeting Card Association estimates that approximately one billion Valentines are sent each year worldwide, and women purchase approximately 85 percent of all valentines. The fact that women buy the majority of cards should tell you that they really enjoy this day. Good Valentines day ideas are a must!
Television commercials try to convince us that diamonds are the way to go for Valentines day ideas. Most of us have to come up with something else that will show her or him that we care and that they matter.
Remember this simple truth about expressing your feelings... it's the thought that counts. If you put thought into it and it shows you can't go wrong no matter how much you do or do not spend.
Essential Valentines Day Ideas
Valentines Day is the time to show her or him how much they matter to you ♥ A card - This is a given, especially if you write your own thoughts and feelings inside or even (*gasp) make your own!
♥ Flowers - Go to a good florist not a gas station, and don't wait until the 14th because you'll get what's left after everyone else who planned ahead.
♥ Candy - Good chocolates are a favorite. Score extra points for a good box that didn't come prepackaged from a drug store.
♥ Champagne - Spring for a good bottle and flutes. Don't forget, real champagne comes from France!
♥ Diamonds - If you can afford it go for it!

Here are a few other Valentines day ideas beyond cards, flowers, and candy that you should consider. The more thought you put into it the more it will show she/he matters to you:
Cook For Her/Him (or order gourmet take out)
If she/he cooks day in and day out this is the perfect Valentines day idea to give them a break. You don't really need a reason to give your special someone a break, but if you did ever need one, Valentines day is it.
Anyone can make a reservation, but just a few will make the effort to cook their favorite meal. If you can't cook, order gourmet take out and spoil them with a fancy candle light dinner at home. If you are stuck for Valentines day ideas, ask one of her or his friends to help with ideas to make this a memorable Valentine's Day.
Indoor Picnic (gourmet take out)
If your date is an outdoor type or would enjoy this twist, take the above idea and turn it into a romantic indoor picnic. Of course, if you have nice weather where you live you can do this outside. If you're in a cold winter area like me you'll need to do this inside.
Get a friend to help you clear the living room of furniture. Spread a blanket and add sturdy (very sturdy) candle holders and a sumptuous spread of gourmet delights. You might opt for flameless candles for safety's sake. Some big, fluffy cushions to sit on and soft music will add to your comfort level. Don't forget the flowers and good champagne!
A Day At The Spa or Massage
Let's face it, most of us don't do enough for ourselves. A day at the spa can be a treat like she (or he) has never known. After a relaxing massage, body wraps, warm stone treatments, and more, they will float out of there on cloud nine. Arrange transportation to and from so the stress doesn't seep back in on the drive home. Most important, this is always a busy day so reserve your spot early. Now.
Write a Love Letter
Writing a love letter is not easy for most of us. Thinking you have to write like Shakespeare makes it worse. Good news, you can do this and it's a lot easier than you think!
Romantic Bed & Breakfast Getaway
An overnight in a romantic B & B can be a great idea after a nice dinner. My wife and I have spent a few Valentine's Days at a hotel that has hot tubs and fireplaces in the rooms. A very cool date. Be sure you reserve very early or you'll get locked out. Very early. Really.
If you think you might want to do this I would suggest calling in November the year before and ask when is the best time to book for Valentine's day. It may even be too late at some places so plan, plan, plan, and plan early.
