Things to do on a date - things you can do right now that are romantic, fun, inexpensive, or creative. You can use these as date ideas, the entire date, or as extra things you can do before, during, or after a "traditional" dinner and a movie type of date.
There are many, many good books, videos, ebooks, and websites (including this one) devoted to helping you make the most of your dates. However, no matter where you look you don't often find completely new and unique things to do on a date - been there, done that is a common issue with daters.
The good news is, successful dates are really about your ability to enjoy the moment no matter how many times you've been there or done that. If you can do that, if you can enjoy the moment and who you're with you will have good dates.
Besides all the usual ideas for dates (found throughout this website) there are always those things to do on a date that are happening now and may not be happening next month or next week.
The limited time element of these type of date ideas makes the opportunity unique. A lot of people like to do things that are unique and thoughtful. Knowing she likes art and knowing there is an exhibit she may have missed that she would probably like makes a good date idea. Before it's gone. Look locally for things to do on a date that are for a limited time or seasonal.
Unique To Your Area
Every city and town has at least a few things to do on a date that are unique to the area. Some of them involve nothing more than to arrive at a scenic location to enjoy nature. Others include attractions or even historic areas that you may not have seen even though you live there.
How many people living in New York City have never gone to the Statue of Liberty? Actually, I checked and couldn't find a definitive answer but I bet it's a lot. The same holds true for your local area. I know there are many things about Michigan I have never seen and I've been here for 20 years. Look for things to do on a date that are unique to your area.
Back Up Plan
I like options. When I'm thinking of things to do on a date I like to give myself 2 or 3 options for a couple reasons. First, sometimes circumstances beyond my control make my first option not possible. By having an extra idea or two I have an instant backup plan. Also, no matter what kind of date we've planned, sometimes you just don't feel like doing what was planned on that particular day or night.
My wife and I took a day trip to Chicago on a train, 3+ hours each way, and planned to visit the Sears tower (now the Willis tower) while we were there. We got to the Tower and I just didn't feel like standing in the line I knew would be there on a nice Saturday afternoon. We went to the House of Blues instead and had a nice lunch and a glass of wine. That was my second choice and it worked out very well. Have a back-up plan of one or two other things to do on a date.
Things To Do On a Date
The most important element to a successful date is you, focused on your time together with the intention of enjoying your time together. No amount of date ideas will make up for a lack of focus on your date or expecting the worst. People usually get what they expect, so expect to enjoy your date and you will.
Some of these ideas you will know and some you may never have considered before. If you find something you like, use it. If it contributes to a successful romantic, fun, creative, inexpensive, or first date - or not - please come back and let me know. I welcome all feedback.
