If you have a good florist you can give good flowers. After you give good flowers you have to know what to do to make them last as long as possible. One common reason your flowers go bad at home is from bacteria that forms in the vase. Clip off any leaves that will sit in the water once you get them in the vase. Put the flowers in the vase without water then clip any leaves that look like they will be below the water line. Leaves in water cause bacteria to spread. I don't know how and it doesn't really matter. Cut em off. Use the flower food you got with your flowers. Most florists give you this with your flowers. It makes roses last longer so use it. When you are ready to add your flowers to water, cut the stems at an angle to allow the flowers to drink up water. You might also think about cutting the stems at different lengths so they don't all sit at the same height in the vase. You don't have to fill the vase all the way up with water since the flowers draw water only from the bottom where you cut it. Change your water at least every 2 or 3 days to keep them fresh. Be sure you don't leave your flowers in bright light or warm places that will cause bacteria grow and make your water evaporate faster. Some flowers are dangerous to pets so take care if there are pets in the home. Check The Humane Society website to see if the flowers you are giving are on the list of common poisonous plants.
