Private Drive In Movie
A Date Night Idea With "Wow!"
A private drive in movie might be one of the most create and romantic date ideas ever. I used this idea well before it showed up in television commercials. It is one of those date ideas that has that "wow" factor. This idea is easy to set up, and you probably have everything you need right now except the warm summer night when you'll enjoy it.
Here's What You'll Need
One of the most creative and romantic date ideas I've ever enjoyed A garage - ask a friend if you don't have one
A vehicle with a clean windshield - a cool convertible would be awesome! If you don't have a car, comfortable lawn chairs work too.
A television, the bigger the better.
DVD player (or VCR if you're going old school)
Refreshments - popcorn, drinks, other snacks and candy, or kick it up a few notches and get better snacks (see below)
I would also recommend you hook up surround sound speakers and run the speakers into the back seat of the car - unless you think you'll need the back seat for other things!
How To Make This Work
All of the following should be done in advance...
Put the car in the garage
Use a table or work bench to set up your TV high enough to have an unobstructed view out the front windshield. Directly in front and maybe a foot higher than the height of the hood should do.
Hook up the DVD player to the TV so you can use the remote from inside the car.
If you're using them (recommended) hook up your speakers and either place the speakers inside the back of the car or around the outside facing the open windows.
Don't forget the movies. I recommend you pick two or three and make at least one of them you are sure you date wants to see. For the snack bar your imagination is the only limit on what you come up with. If you don't already know, ask questions a week or two ahead of time to find out what your date might enjoy during the movie. Then, do as much preparation as you can ahead of time so all you have to do is choose it, grab it, and go.
You can go with the standard movie fare of popcorn, candy, cookies, and sodas. I personally would love a bucket of shrimp and cocktail sauce. You could make sandwiches or even cook something up on the grill then adjourn to your private drive in theater for the movie. Appetizers from your favorite restaurant work great for this date night!
Some Extra Things You Can Do
♥ Get yourself a couple of those movie popcorn buckets. You can sometimes find them in grocery stores, party stores, or stop by the movie theater in your area. Tell the manager what you are planning and see if they will give or sell you a couple.
♥ Stop the movie half way through to stretch, use the men's and ladies room, and refill your snacks. This is a great time to make ice cream sundaes or whip up a thick milk shake. This assumes you are actually watching the movies at the half way point.
♥ If you are good with drawing or on the computer you can make up some private drive in movie tickets. After you ask and they accept your invite to come over, send the tickets with the name(s) of the movies you'll watch and a snack menu. By the way, be sure to pick at least one movie you know they will enjoy even if you have no interest in it. Then DON'T FALL ASLEEP!
This private drive in movie idea worked very well for me and I'm sure you will enjoy it if you give it a try!
Have fun and let me know how it works for you!
