Paint Your Own Pottery

Fun, Creative, and Romantic

Paint your own pottery is a lot more fun than it sounds. To me it sounds a little intimidating and I consider myself to be very creative. The truth is, this is a very fun time that I'm looking forward to enjoying again in the near future.

This idea is pretty much what it says. You go to a studio where you can pick from a variety of unpainted pottery. You pick your paints and decorate to your hearts desire. Some places will have stencils and different options to make decorating easy for every skill level.

Romantic Date IdeaThe most important thing to know about this idea is that the ladies really seem to enjoy it so it's almost a can't miss date.

The studios in our area have ladies night, date night, party options, and even pottery-to-go where you can take your items home to decorate on your own time.

I went with my girlfriend, now my wife, and we had a great time. I decorated the coffee mug on the right in this picture, while she did the mug on the left and the butter dish. We still use all of them, especially the butter dish. I'm looking forward to adding to our collection.

Don't worry if you aren't creative

Even if you don't know how to paint you will still have fun with this idea. You get to look around at other painted stuff they have on hand for ideas or just go with the flow. Hand prints, thumb prints, dots, lines, circles, squares, sports logos, or just something to remind you of her.

Since you're on a date perhaps you'll end up making something for each other? It doesn't matter what you do really - you just put your personal touch on this blank canvas and share a good time with someone who is probably as intimidated as you are.

Just have fun and you can't go wrong!

Really. They also have people on location who can help you with ideas. After you finish painting your pottery you leave it with them and they put it in an oven to bake-in your design.

Once finished your creation is usable for all sorts of things. You can drink from the cups and eat off the plates. You can make bowls for your keys, pencil holders, espresso cups, flower pots, or whatever tickles your fancy once you get there and see what they have.

Call ahead for the hours and prices, and don't forget to ask them about their slowest times. They are always happy to see you walk through their door during their slow times and you'll have the whole place to yourself.

Check out this Paint Your Own website for ideas and a list of locations in your area.

It usually takes a few days before you can pick up your finished item. This gives you a good reason for a second date to admire your work together.

Have fun and let me know how you like this idea!
