Play Outside

Be A Kid Again!

Play outside like you were a kid again, running around enjoying the fact that the only thing that matters is that you're having fun. On a nice day it may be hard to find someplace to let loose with no kids, but if you do, pretend you're still a kid and have fun! Just don't get stuck in anything!

If you are a fun date, this can be a fun date.

This is a great way to release the stress of your day-to-day routine, getting outside to play. It may be just what you need to blow off some steam and get a good laugh out of you, so go play outside. It's also true that the adrenalin rush will improve your mood and make you more attracted to your special someone, hopefully the one playing outside with you!

Romantic Date IdeaProbably every town and city has a park with a playground. Even those towns that don't have a playground most likely offer natural settings that will work just the same. The idea is to get out and have fun... swing on a swingset, slide down a slide if you'll fit, and monkey around on the jungle gym and other playground equipment.

Going outside to play will challenge your muscles and get your blood pumping. Kids love this stuff because it's fun. There's no reason why it should stop being fun just because you're older.

Playgrounds have come a long way since the days of metal swingsets and slides. These days you are likely to find things such as the see-saw, merry-go-round, swingset, slide, jungle gym, chin-up bars, sandbox, spring rider, monkey bars, overhead ladder, trapeze rings, playhouses, and mazes, all made from more kid friendly materials. All these things were designed to help children develop physical coordination, strength and flexibility, and to have fun. You need all this too!

Side note: professionals consider the "free, spontaneous play" on a playground to be some of the most beneficial type of play in a child's development.

If you don't have a playground in your area or if you are "too big" to play there, you can always break out some of the games we used to play as kids. A lot of these games work very well on a warm summer evening. Gather a bunch of your friends and have an old fashioned game night outside playing some of these games...

  • Dodge Ball << some places have organized adult teams

  • Kick Ball << some places have organized adult teams

  • Kick the Can << we played this often during the summer

  • Simon Says

  • Red Rover

  • Red Light, Green Light

  • Jump Rope

  • Hopscotch

  • Hide and Seek

  • Four Square

  • Capture the Flag

The third week in May is National Backyard Games week!

Use your imagination, play outside, and have fun with this inexpensive date idea. The is a nice fun date for an outdoors type who is a "free spirit" and likes to laugh and have fun. This outdoor date will work very well when combined with a picnic - work up an appetite playing, then spread a blanket, relax, and share a meal.

A quick word about "you're too old for that" or it's too "childish" for you to play outside: when you let go of your ability to enjoy life (as you most likely did as a child) you are missing out on the best part of life. There is no such thing as "too old for that" for those who truly know how to enjoy living. Go play outside!
