I think that would be very romantic if my wife came home with that date idea all planned out and ready to go. I'm sure she would feel the same way if I came home with that idea.

Eat and drink better stuff Popcorn and soda are good for movies. It's expected. I like something with a little more flavor that won't leave me feeling like I just ate a barrel of popcorn and drank a half gallon of sugar water. Getting creative at the movies can be expensive; concessions are where they make money. Getting creative at home will also cost you more, but you'll get more bang for your buck:
Take out your favorite appetizers from your favorite restaurantA bucket of shrimp and cocktail sauceA variety of gourmet popcornFresh made candy from a candy storeChopped and chilled mixed fruit bowlsIce creamA bucket of hot wingsSushiAnything fresh from the grillWhat about a martini, frozen drink, or milk shakes
Think outside the bucket!
Going out...
Be flexible I actually don't go out to many movies, maybe less than 6 per year, but I love to sit and watch movies, especially old movies with good story lines and good acting. My favorite movies are romantic comedy, action, sci-if, adventure, drama, horror, westerns, war... just about everything.
When we do go out for movie night she is willing to see what I want to see and I am willing to see what she wants to see. Lucky for us most often what we want to see is the same thing. We are still flexible about what we will see so it's always fun and I've never seen a bad movie. I've seen rotten acting, poorly executed scripts, and incomplete screenplays, but I've never seen a bad movie.
Eat first Going out for movie night is about 80% the movie and 20% going out, especially if you are doing something before and/or after the movie. If you're going out to dinner and a movie, eat before the movie and save yourself money since you won't need raid the snack bar for the barrel of popcorn and gallon of sugar water.
When we don't eat first the only thing I ever want to do after a movie is go home to let that lump of snack bar settle in my stomach.
Try not to pick foods that may make you tired and fall asleep in the theater. Ever hear someone snoring at the movies? I have, and it was actually kind of funny but I'm sure it wasn't to his date.
Eating first will also give you time to sit still and let your body digest so that after the movie you will have the energy to do something else - like watching a romantic sunset or star gazing or go for a walk together or go back to your place and... use your imagination.
One last thing Ever watch a movie you had no interest in seeing? Were you bored out of your skull or even annoyed enough to make comments during the movie? Even worse, have you ever watched a movie with someone like that?! Nothing can ruin a movie night quicker than being a horse's behind when watching a movie you don't want to see. It's like you do everything you can to ruin it for everyone else. If this is you, stop that! Remember, if it is something they want to enjoy with you, you can be grown up enough to let them enjoy it and not ruin it for them. Pretend if you have to. Anyone worth being with will appreciate this from you.
