Daytime Date Ideas

Fun, Creative, and Romantic Things To Do
During The Day!

Daytime date ideas are not in short supply since not all of us work days. Some of us work nights and play, meet, and mingle during the daylight hours. If this is you, you're looking for something other than a dinner date unless you call pancakes dinner. Actually, I enjoy pancakes for dinner sometimes.

As a date idea, cooking together is both fun and romantic and something you can do during the day. How many times have you had breakfast in bed? Not many I bet. Just think how much fun you can have with breakfast in bed just because it's Tuesday!

Daytime Date Ideas
Share a romantic sunrise or one of the many other daytime date ideas
How about a light breakfast, you both cook, then head to the bedroom to eat and feed each other. Depending on your relationship you can follow it up with whatever form of intimacy you enjoy to burn off the carbs and calories?! Just a thought.

On a more serious note (not that I wasn't serious) I agree there is a certain level of intimacy to a corner table in a darkened restaurant at night that isn't there during the day. When the environment isn't ready-made for romance you have to put on your thinking cap and come up with a better idea to create your own intimacy.

The one immediate advantage that I think of for daytime date ideas is that you can actually find yourself alone in many places that cater primarily to night timers. As long as you miss the breakfast and lunch rush you'll find a lot of places practically empty and (hopefully) ready to welcome you in. With a dinner date you eat when everyone else eats.

With the exception of those places that are only opened at night, you can do pretty much everything with daytime date ideas that you can do at night. Something like two of every five workers in the USA do not work days, so you can be sure there are plenty of good daytime date ideas to address the large population of people looking for things to do.

My Favorite Daytime Date Ideas

Daytime Date Ideas
Sharing a sunrise is a great way to start your day
  • Watch the Sunrise

There is something pretty magical about a sunrise. It's is a very peaceful event with the birds waking up and the rest of us usually still asleep. This has to be one of my favorite daytime date ideas, watching the world around me come to life.

Depending on your vantage point you can find all sorts of variations on a sunrise. Sometimes you get foggy mornings, sometimes awe inspiring colors, and usually not a whole lot of company so the best spots are open and waiting for you.

Even if you can't get to a location where you actually see the sun come up over the horizon, the transition from dark to dawn to daylight is pretty special. Even during the winter you will find the sunrise to be a uniquely special event, very much unlike the sunset.

All you need is a blanket to keep each other warm, some coffee or hot chocolate, and perhaps a light breakfast (croissants, fruit, etc) to get you going and make this one of your favorite daytime date ideas.

  • Go for a Walk or a Bike Ride

My wife and I used to get up before it was light out and walk. We saw quite a few couples out there walking in the early mornings. Most of them were walking for fitness, but it really doesn't matter why. It's a nice time to see the world around you as it sleeps, and it's also an opportunity to have a quiet, uninterrupted conversation. Besides other walkers you might see small animals, stars still in the sky, and of course, if you time it right you'll see the sunrise.

    Daytime Date Ideas
    Enjoy a bike ride together
You don't have to be up at the crack of dawn to take a daytime walk or bike ride. Anywhere you can walk or ride safely will do, around the neighborhood, downtown, a park, or even an unused track.

This can be an enjoyable experience any time of the year. We've walked mostly in the fall when the air was crisp and cool and we kept up a good pace to keep warm.

All you'll need are your walking shoes (and/or bike) and a date to meet and enjoy each other's daytime company.

Side note: I've used Craigslist myself to organize small group morning walks and bike rides in local parks with others that were interested. While I wasn't looking for a date it was an easy way to make new friends and get out of the house to socialize. As long as you keep it a group thing you will find safety in numbers. I wouldn't advise meeting anyone until you've established a rapport, and then only in public with others around.

  • Go out for Coffee / Tea / Breakfast / Brunch / Lunch

This is pretty basic but there are some things that need to be said. I believe the one element that makes a date successful or not is you. It doesn't matter what you do, where you go, or how much you spend. Your focus on your date and the time you are sharing is what will make a cup of coffee and conversation something you want to call your friends and brag about.

  • Visit a Museum / Aquarium

Watch out for the kids during the school year.

  • Visit the Zoo

Again, the daytime hours are usually when the kids are out and about, with mom or on school field trips. Of course, if you focus on the animals and your date you'll hardly notice 300 screaming kids. LOL.

  • Take or Give a Guided Tour

There are locations around the world with volunteers who will take you on guided tours. The Chicago Greeter Program, part of the Global Greeter Network, has about 200 volunteer greeters that will show you around specific neighborhoods.

Hi Everywhere! hieverywhere.com is where you can find and be a volunteer tour guide.

Very often the tours are on a first come first served basis and they are walking tours. Even if you've been there and done that, a guided tour may give you a different look at a familiar location.

    Daytime Date Ideas
Slow down and just relax together
  • Sit Back and Relax

If where you live is anything like where I live, most of the people work days which means the neighborhood is pretty quiet during the day. I can head into the back yard during the day and lay in the hammock for hours of peace and quiet.

If my wife has an occasional day off we sometimes sit out back, her with her circle words or a book, and me with my cigar, lounging in the hammock, staring up at the clouds. Sometimes we talk, sometimes we just enjoy the day with each other.

If money is an issue or if you are comfortable doing nothing besides enjoying each others company, head into the back yard (or a park) and just relax. You can easily add a picnic, asking each other question from the The Book of Questions, or even back yard games to this idea if you have to do something besides nothing. I like to sit and appreciate the opportunity to do nothing.

  • Wash Each Others Cars

There is something about car washing that gets people in the mood to turn the hose on each other. All that splashing and laughing and trying unsuccessfully to stay dry works up an appetite so lunch afterwards is a natural progression - just remember a change of clothes. An added bonus is if you actually end up with a clean car.
