Cook or Bake Together
Cook Up Some Romance In The Kitchen Cook or bake together on a date is one of those things that works for some, doesn't work for others. My wife tells me she has no desire to be in the kitchen on a date. To her this isn't a fun or creative date idea. It is my feeling that if she (or you) give it a try you will see that it's not about what you are doing, it's about the together time. Of course, I don't prepare meals just about every day so that's easy for me to say.
All the date ideas on this website are centered around the idea that you build stronger relationships by sharing fun and romance, and by being willing to just enjoy each other's company no matter what you're doing. In that respect, doing laundry can be fun if you do it together and find a way to make it fun. Okay, that may be going a bit too far but you should always remember, "if you think you can or you think you can't, you are right". The fun really is in what you make of it and not in the specific activity you are sharing.
There are a few ways you can make this date idea work, even for a busy mom or wife who cooks every day and doesn't see this as fun.
Cooking isn't fun?! One way you can make this idea work for someone who doesn't want to be in the kitchen on a date is for you to do the work while she sits and watches with her favorite beverage or a camera. You could share some conversation while you prepare her favorite meal or dessert and then of course, you get to sit and enjoy your creation together.
If you aren't a good chef you might be able to find a place where you can go to take a lesson together. Look for adult education classes in your area for ideas or ask around. This can be as easy as following directions. Once you learn the basics you can think about adding your own personal touch. Until then, follow directions and it's hard to go wrong.
Have you ever seen on television where someone gets to go in the kitchen at a restaurant? If you call around and ask you may find that someone is willing to bring you into the kitchen and let you put on the apron and hat and prepare the meal you will be eating. It can't hurt to ask, so try before you give up on this. I've never personally done this, but I'm sure if it were something I wanted to try I would find a way to get it done, especially if it was a date idea for someone who would really enjoy it and/or be impressed.
If she is going to just watch, maybe she can be in charge of the drinks and whip up something in the blender. Margarita anyone?!
Cooking is fun! If cooking or baking together is something you think your date would enjoy, try these ideas to serve up some romance in the kitchen.
- It doesn't have to be her favorite meal, but at least put something on the menu she likes.
- Finger food is great too. There is something about feeding each other that some people seem to like, and it is thought of as romantic.
- Be sure you have everything you need in advance including ingredients, utensils, and something to cook it in. Borrow what you don't have from a friend or relative.
- A fire extinguisher is a great idea for any kitchen, and especially when you are experimenting with new meals.
- Follow directions and always use a timer. There is nothing worse (or cute or funny) about burning your food and possibly the house down. Go back to the previous idea if you don't fully understand how serious this is.
I personally think baking is easier and more fun than trying to plan and prepare a full meal, especially if you don't know your way around the kitchen. Baking usually doesn't require you to time several things so it all is done at the same time. You also have a period of time while you are waiting for it to bake when you can sit back and talk or whatever. Once it's finished you have dessert and who doesn't like dessert?!
There are endless ideas online. Try the food network or hit the bookstore and find some ideas. You could always call Mom!
You can have fun with this idea, even if you "have to" cook every day.
