Romantic Cape Cod Getaway - We were in Massachusetts for my daughters wedding and decided to add an extra couple days stay for our own romantic getaway. I grew up in the East and my wife had never seen Cape Cod. We picked a small place and made the drive down from the Boston area. It was off season, very quiet, and it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves.
I grew up going to Cape Cod as a child to enjoy the beaches and the weather and the fresh sea food. You gotta have the sea food! When I got older I still went back to the Cape with my friends to hang out and take in the awesome Cape Cod nights. Here I am 30 years later and I still love going to the Cape for the sights and sounds and tastes that make it unique and special.
Our getaway included great food, a stop at one of my favorite ice cream places from when I was a youngster, local beaches, antique shopping (tons of great stuff!), and site seeing. We usually bring a bottle of our favorite champagne and toast to our celebration and how much we appreciate the opportunity to enjoy and explore another place in the world.
American discovery...
Cape Cod, Massachusetts - Captain John Smith noted it on his map of 1614 and at last the Pilgrims entered the "Cape Harbor" and -- contrary to the popular myth of Plymouth Rock -- made their first landing near present-day Provincetown on November 11, 1620. Nearby, in what is now Eastham, they had their first encounter with Native Americans.
With 559.6 miles of coastline, beaches, both public and private, are easily accessible. The Cape has upwards of sixty public beaches, many of which offer parking for non-residents for a daily fee (in summer). The Cape Cod National Seashore has 40 miles of sandy beach and many walking paths.
